Artist's Statement

Painting is an expression of the consciousness of the artist.

My definition of Art is “the expression of perception, filtered through consciousness.” That sounds pretentious, but I can’t think of a more succinct or down to earth way of saying it.

My interest in painting is to express a greater and greater degree of  consciousness in my work.

By quietly looking at a painting or other work of Art, be it sculpture, dance, music or other, the observer can access the artist's state of mind when they created it.

When the consciousness of the observer resonates favorably with that of the artist, the experience is pleasant and promotes joy.

I believe the purpose of creation is the expansion of happiness. Painting is my small contribution to that goal.

Enjoy!

Apart from commissioned paintings I've completed over the years, I have worked as a muralist and faux-finish painter as well as painting maquettes (small models) for movies and theme parks.

I currently teach Art in the Fillmore Unified School District at San Cayetano Elementary School, and also at Westlake Montessori.
